Valentine’s Week in the 614

For an accused Hallmark holiday Valentine’s day sure does have an effect on people. For those who are happily coupled it can signify an excuse for a romantic night out (or in, ala netflix and chill, my personal favorite), and even a little stress and frustration making sure the holiday goes smoothly. For those not in a relationship the holiday can sometimes lead to a pint of Ben and Jerry’s and some serious self pity.

The good news is feeling down isn’t in your cards this year. There are too many fun events happening throughout the week in Columbus and we challenge you to partake in as many as possible!

 Galentine’s Coloring Party

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 11th, 6:30 p.m

Coloring pages from local Columbus artists, networking with some Cbus entrepreneurs and artists and great happy hour deals on craft beers! Count us in! Actually, we will be at this event, if you see us come say hi!

Body Language Dance Party

Body Language is a free, monthly dance party, the second Saturday of every month hosted by BBX. For their Valentine’s edition, resident DJs Lower Frequency and Coma Coz along with special guest, Dennis Cox spin a mix of cutting-edge techno, house, electro, and more.

Love Stories

Tuesdays are the new Friday at Shadowbox! Get a head start on Valentines day and enjoy an evening of comedic stories about love, lust, and heartbreak, told to you live on stage by some of Columbus’s favorite comedians and storytellers.
Featuring: Brooke Cartus, Billy DePetro, Erin McIntyre, Dustin Meadows, Sarah J. Storer, Emily Turner, and Pants.
Hosted by: Nickey Winkelman. $5

Short North Arches: Canvas Painting Class

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 14th, 12-2pm. $35

This is a 2-hour class for beginners, and the Short North Arches will already be sketched out on all canvases! No experience is necessary, and all supplies are included with artist instruction. Food & alcohol consumption during this class is joyfully encouraged! Arch City Tavern will provide wonderful service and a diverse menu of food, as well as drinks of course… to help ease your anxiety of trying something new.

Franklin Park Conservatory Valentine’s Day Event

Spend a romantic evening tasting exquisite wines and liqueurs paired with handcrafted artisan chocolates. Stroll through a display of exotic orchid blooms, enjoy live music and dance demonstrations, and forget the February chill in the Conservatory’s inviting plant collections.
A full bar, small plates in the Garden Cafe, and bottles of the featured wines and liqueurs are available for purchase.

21+ only.$15, $12 for members. Tickets available online or at the door. Includes three wine and chocolate pairings. Additional pairings may be purchased for $4, or 3 for $10.

Yoga on High: Valentine Yoga & Poetry

Saturday, February 13 from 2-4pm. $25

Gather up your yoga mat and favorite pen and pad and join poet and author Michael J. Rosen and yogi Sally Walsh Roberts for an afternoon of creativity.

They will be exploring the lovely dance between poetry and practice as they weave your vinyasa with words and writing. Like yoga, creating poetry should not be about the perfection of the poem or the perfection of its execution but the act of being present as you write it. Wether you choose to attend with a friend or go solo, let the act of self love be the sweetest Valentine treat you receive this year.
