Vegetable Spiralizer – The kitchen gadget you NEED!!

vegetable spiralizer

Allow me tell you how a vegetable spiralizer has forever transformed my pasta game.  For me, there’s nothing more comforting than slurping down a big plate of saucy noodles, however 10 minutes later there’s nothing more uncomfortable than knowing I probably just consumed over 600 calories of refined carbs. Since adopting a healthier lifestyle, I’ve tried and failed at many alternative pastas. Quinoa, brown rice, and even corn pasta all seem to fall into the same category for me: mushy and hard to cook.  That was until I purchased my first vegetable spiralizer and instantly fell in love!  A spiralizer can turn your favorite vegetables into brightly colored ribbons of healthy,gluten-free “noodles” that can be enjoyed sautéed, boiled, or even my personal favorite, raw! read more

Valentine’s Week in the 614

For an accused Hallmark holiday Valentine’s day sure does have an effect on people. For those who are happily coupled it can signify an excuse for a romantic night out (or in, ala netflix and chill, my personal favorite), and even a little stress and frustration making sure the holiday goes smoothly. For those not in a relationship the holiday can sometimes lead to a pint of Ben and Jerry’s and some serious self pity.

The good news is feeling down isn’t in your cards this year. There are too many fun events happening throughout the week in Columbus and we challenge you to partake in as many as possible!

Feeding your Immune System

Welp, it’s finally winter in Ohio! After an unusually warm December, the temperatures have officially dropped. If you’re like most people, the seasonal drop in temperature often leads to a bad cold, runny nose, sore throat, cough and even exhaustion. For me it never fails, one week into temperatures below 40 degrees and I typically come down with a slight cold. Not enough to send me to the doctor but certainly enough to dampen my mood and cancel any exciting plans that day. It only takes a few times of leaving the house in not enough layers before I am repeating my mother’s old winter warnings in my head as I pick out what to wear in the morning, “Bundle up! Make sure your ears are covered! I don’t want you getting sick!” Much of my mother’s cold weather advice has stuck with me over the years and I find myself stocking up on hot tea, vitamin C and lemon around the same time I unpack my winter box of hats and scarves.read more
